Having played at football’s highest level for both club and country and as a past manager of Middlesbrough and the England U21 team, Gareth is well positioned to take England forward and into what will hopefully be successful new era for the team. As a player he won the League Cup with both Aston Villa and Middlesbrough, and captained Crystal Palace to win the First Division championship in ’94. He made his debut for England in ’95 and went on to make 57 appearances for the team, featuring in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and both the 1996 and 2000 European Championships. His playing career ended with Middlesbrough in May 2006 after more than 500 league appearances, and was subsequently appointed Middlesbrough manager. He served as manager of the team from until 2009 before being appointed manager of the England U21 team in 2013. In November 2016 Gareth was appointed the England national team manager. Having qualified comfortably, sitting at the top of their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, we’re looking forward to hearing from the man who will lead England in what we all hope will be a successful campaign on football’s World stage.
With his characteristic gravelly Canadian drawl, Sean’s carved an acclaimed comedy career based around his laid-back delivery of sardonic tales and observations from his life – Love, fatherhood, living a cleaner life, life in the UK and being burgled as showcased in his appearance on Michael McIntryre’s Comedy Roadshow. Sean is a firmly established club and comedy festival favourite, a regular at the London Comedy Store and his Edinburgh shows frequently gain critical and audience praise, including ‘Best of the Fest’ accolades. To Chortle he’s ‘a master of the art of the digression without ever losing a thread.’
Our host for the afternoon, the popular and charismatic football reporter Mark Clemmit. Known to many as Clem, Mark can be seen most Saturday afternoon’s on both BBC One’s “Football Focus” and “Final Score” having established himself as one of English football’s most familiar faces and voices.
